Minor Home Occupation

A permit is required for a minor home occupation.  It is lawful occupation carried on by a resident as an accessory use of land zoned residential, conducted for gain, and subordinate to the residential use of the land.  A minor home occupation delivers or mails their product elsewhere and does not have clients or customers coming to their home.  Only members of the family residing in the dwelling shall be employees working at the site.  The minor home occupation shall not utilize any sign larger than a two square foot sign.  U.P.S., U.S. Post Office, Federal Express and Courier deliveries are allowed.   Deliveries that do not exceed 2.5 tons gross weight are allowed once per week.

The purpose and intent is to maintain the residential character of neighborhoods in both appearance and characteristics.  It is to allow businesses compatible with residential uses without infringing upon the right of the neighboring residents to enjoy the peaceful occupancy of their homes.

Occupations exempt from filing for applying for a minor home occupation permit are building contractors, home builders and tradespeople, landscaping services, janitorial services and truck drivers, where the work is conducted entirely off-site.  Other businesses where the office in the home services only as a secondary office and E-Business (internet).
